Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) She was raised by the mother, grandmother, and godparents. Her father was absent from her family. As a young girl, she struggled with an obsessive compulsive disorder. She also experienced anxiety because of the word"association. Ford began performing in her teens and became an actor in the National Youth Theatre. After being accepted at the Sylvia Young Theatre School for brief time, Ford decided that this was not the best location for her. Ford rather applied to the Central School of Speech and Drama, finally winning a place on her fourth attempt. Shaun Dingwall - who later appeared as Pete Tyler in Doctor Who was among her fellow students. Ford was graduated in 1993, but at the time she was already making her television debut in an episode from 1991 of Surgical Spirit; she adopted the name of her professional "Catherine Tate". During the Nineties, Tate could be seen on television in programmes including The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning. The stage was her main focus, and joined the company's 2000-2001 season. Tate became famous for her stand-up comedies, that were added to her repertoire in 1996.
